Synonyms: Emerald Green, Verde Esmeraldo

Location: Verde Esmeralda granite is quarried near Castelo, Espirito Santo, Brazil.

Description: Verde Esmeralda granite is a coarse-grained, dark green pearlescent charnockite. This stone internationally may be nominated as a granite and in the area of application of the European Standard this stone must be nominated as a charnockite.

The veining and colour varies and a small sample of Verde Esmeralda granite may not be representative of the whole slab therefore swatch samples must be approved for large projects to ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. Ideal for both interior and exterior use, Verde Esmeralda granite is frost free and polish constant.

Mineral Composition:

Technical and Physical Characteristics:
Compression tensile strength: 1922 kg/cm2
Tensile strength after freeze-thaw cycles: 1744 kg/cm2
Unitary modulus of bending tensile strength: 175 kg/cm2
Heat expansion coefficient: 0.0065 mm/mC
Water imbibition coefficient: 0.002200
Mass by unit of volume: 2695 kg/m3

Charnockite: A hypersthene granite typical of Precambrian assemblages that contain migmatites. Charnockite is composed of orthoclase, oligoclase, quartz, and hypersthene; it also often includes the garnets almandine and pyrope, as well as biotite, magnetite, and other minerals. Two types of charnockites are distinguished: ferrohypersthene charnockite and garnet charnockite.
