Synonyms: Saint Luis, Sant Louis

Location: Saint Louis granite is quarried in Portugal.

Description: Saint Louis granite is a dark grey syenite with black inclusions. This stone internationally may be nominated as a granite but in the area of application of the European Standard this stone must be nominated as a syenite.

The veining and colour varies and a small sample of Saint Louis granite may not be representative of the whole slab therefore swatch samples must be approved for large projects to ensure that the blocks are all extracted from the same quarry face for matching purposes. Ideal for both interior and exterior use, Saint Louis granite is frost free and polish constant.

Mineral Composition:

Technical and Physical Characteristics:
Bulk density: 2.7 kg/dm≥
bending strength: 14.1 - 16.2 N/mm≤
compression breaking load: 197 - 215.9 N/mm≤

Syenite: A coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock of the same general composition as granite but with the quartz either absent or present in relatively small amounts (<5%). The feldspar component of syenite is predominantly alkaline in character (usually orthoclase). Plagioclase feldspars may be present in small quantities, less than 10%.
